Custom Fit Why & FAQ's for Musicians |

Custom Fit Earpieces Custom-fit earpieces are the preferred option for professional users giving superior audio performance and comfort as well as excluding ambient noise sources. All Sensorcom in-ear products can made up as custom fit; all we need is and impression of your ear(s) which is a simple process. See the impressions section of this page. What is the best solution if I want a lot of bass? We have found that it is usually best to use moulds with one of the Aiwa drivers. The models change rapidly but try to get the HP-V551 (or equivalent model). This has a double vent tube and produces stunning low frequencies. On the down side - they are not exactly unobtrusive and the cable is lightweight. They can be obtained from Hi-Fi stores - get a few pairs while you are there - they don't cost that much! What is the difference between custom Micro-Monitors and Custom Moulds? Essentially not much; however Micro-Monitors will look far superior and the cable and connector regime is detectable of a professional standard and they will be much better at enduring the rigours of heavy use. Many artists use low frequency control port, which, with the use of the calibrated vents, can change the Micro Monitors audio response. This is established through user preference and is best established in the rehearsal studio! What is the best material for my moulds> We recommend the Soft Silicon. We use a very special grade which in non-sticky and very smooth to touch. Do I have to have units custom fitted? To gain the maximum benefit from In-Ear monitoring we highly recommend this. Having custom fitted monitors is a completely different listening experience and the fact that they will exclude over 20dB of ambient noise makes stage performance a much safer way of life. How much ambient noise will custom fits units exclude? Assume 20dB but this will vary slightly with different models What is a Generic Earpiece? We call it a one-size-fits-most as a general rule and we offer a low-cost soft silicon pair designed with a profile that does a superb job of holding buds into ears! If the unit is to be used on a daily basis we highly recommend that a custom unit is used as the benefits are considerable. Generic units are good for spares, or for use with occasional users. They exclude only about 6dB of ambient noise at best. Where do I get impressions taken? Take a look at the Audiology section within this web site. It will tell you all you need to know. Are there any solutions if I have a hearing loss? We have helped many musicians who have suffered hearing loss, usually through years of exposure to high sound levels on stage. We can certainly help balance you up and get you out on stage again. Probably best to call us on this one and we will put you in contact with a hearing professional who understands the needs of a musician: phone 0870 901 6070. Will the monitors damage my ears? Physically no, but if you have the audio level from the receiver you are using too high then this can happen as it can with any type of headphone. With custom fitted units shielding you from external noise there id really no need to listen to monitors too loud. Will I like Micro-Monitors as soon as I try them? Probably not; In-Ear monitoring is a totally different way of working to the classic wedge/side-fill arrangement. You will need to establish what you want in the mix - remember you will not be able to hear some of the music on stage - and you will probably want to add some reverb you mix may sound "dry". Start with the large room setting and play around with the settings until you feel comfortable with the what sound you are getting. Do all of this in rehearsal - you will not have enough time and may become disillusioned with the result if you try to get used to IEM ten minutes before a gig! Will it effect my singing? Yes - IEM will help you pitch more easily and sing at lower volumes. However (tip for sound engineers) if the monitoring volume in you ears is too high you will naturally sing at a lower level. You will need to work on this with your sound engineer to establish the optimum volume balance. Why should I choose Sensorcom products? Sensorcom have been making IEM products for a long time and are very familiar with the needs of performing artists. Sensorcom also supply some of the IEM equipment hardware manufacturers are we think that we are well qualified to pontificate on the subject. Should I monitor in Stereo? We think it is best for overall sound quality on orientation. It does however give the sound engineer more grief! Can I monitor with just one ear? Yes, usually not for total monitoring but good for pitching. Will I have to change my monitor mix? Most certainly; the monitor mix will probably require more channels and will be more like a FOH mix as you have to replace all the sounds excluded by the isolation of the In-Ear monitors Will I be able to hear ambient noise? You will certainly hear the low frequencies, but the high frequencies will be well attenuated. Some performer also like to be aware if audience reaction (don't we all) and it is common place to place an ambient microphone to feed in to the monitor mix.
