Noise at work legislation is now becoming a serious consideration for employers and employees with the First Action Level due to be decreased from 85dB to 80dB by February 2006 in Europe. It is therefore essential that employers take the necessary actions to protect their staff and keep them within the stated sound level parameters as defined by state or local legislation. Sensorcom recommend that where possible, attenuating ear plugs are used rather than the type that fully block. This maintains spatial awareness for safety as well as venting the ear – and as a bonus to the employer they last for years as they are non-disposable. Custom fit models are also available.
Take a look at the audiology section of this site - it includes a noise exposure calculator that will work out if an individual is exposed noise levels where ear protection becomes obligatory.
